Mark Davis Leads Panel on Growth Strategies at NIC Regional Conference

Mark Davis moderated a panel on Growth and Exit Strategies for Nursing Home Operators at the 2003 National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industry (NIC) Regional Conference in San Diego, California on March 7, 2003.  The panel was on mergers and acquisitions and divestiture strategies in the skilled nursing facility sector.  Representatives from Key Bank, Benchmark Healthcare, Kensington Management and Aspen Healthcare presented case studies of their companies’ growth strategies and in one case, exit strategy.

The panelists represented skilled nursing facility companies at different stages of the business life-cycle from start-up, growth and expansion, to maturity and exit, and focused on the intersection of strategy, execution and capital. Their case studies highlighted why and how a perfect storm of market conditions and personal factors led to one long-established operator exiting the industry and selling his portfolio, how an emerging regional operator pursues acquisitions and collaborates with their lender to evaluate and finance acquisitions, and what obstacles and opportunities a new operator to the sector faced originating, structuring, completing and financing their first deal and follow-on deals.

Mr. Davis presented an introduction and overview of the topic and led a question and answer period following the presentations.  Over 1,200 people attended the the three-day conference.  Mr. Davis was also a member of the Planning Committee for the NIC Conference.
